How to update Windows 7

Even Windows 7 need update too. A few review from my friend who use windows 7 make me laugh. They avid user of Windows XP where windows update running automatically and they just need to install the update after all download complete.

I myself don’t like that approach and prefer to choose which update I want to install and since I’ve document it, I decide to post the process.

Find out where windows update is

To access windows update in windows 7 just click start -> control panel.

Under System and Security choose ‘Review your computer’s status‘.

Find ‘Windows Update‘ and click.

Review your needs

I strongly suggest not blindly accept all update that displayed.

By default Windows Update will list two type of updates :

  1. Important updates
  2. Optional Updates

At the right section :

“6 important updates selected, 51,4 MB – 53,2 MB”

It means that from two type of updates you’ve choose only 6 updates from 9 available updates.

Change your Update Preference

Click each type of update and choose which one you like update first by check it.

After I change my preference I only need 1 update. Click ‘Install updates‘ button.

Windows update will download and install the update until finish. When the updates processed successfully you’ll see like this picture.

To make sure everything OK you must restart your computer.
